The room
A glass-walled corner that became an institution
Billy West opened Zuni in February 1979 “with a huge heart and exactly ten thousand dollars” in a triangular 1913 building that once housed a cactus shop. Judy Rodgers arrived in 1987 on one condition: a wood-fired brick oven.
Nearly five decades later the copper bar still pours, the piano still plays, and the dining room still wraps around two floors of glass at the corner of Market and Rose — a five-minute walk from the Opera House, SFJAZZ and Davies Symphony Hall.
